Zip Lines and Gut Busters

Monday morning, Liz went out and took some lovely pictures of the hotel and seaside:

June 28, 2010: Rise and shine! Selvatica time! Liz and I were picked up at 9:45 in the morning to set out on our zip line tour. The first order of the day was learning how to do the actual zipping. Piece of cake. We harnessed up and were soon zooming through the jungle. There were some short lines and some longer lines; some fast lines and some slow lines. All in all, we wished the tour went longer (you only averaged a ten to fifteen second zip each time), but the experience was pretty cool. We went right over and through the untamed jungle. Liz and I both had a turn at zipping upside-down. Painful, yet fun. After zipping, we headed over to a cenote.

Riding in the military van to the cenote.

There is a huge underground river system in southern parts of Mexico and a cenote is an eroded spot in which the water is exposed. The Selvatica cenote was appropriately armed with a zip line. Liz and I abused that thing. I got some decent back-flips in, but we both also had our share of flops. I simply didn’t tuck my feet and got stuck on the handle. Face flop. Liz, however, simply forgot to tuck anything and body flopped.

Have you ever thrown a stick into water? The instances in which the stick hits on its side reflects the scene of Liz trying a back-flip off a zip line. Whoomp, whoomp, smack! We have video.

Don't worry, honey. You'll get it next time.

After a lunch provided by the Selvatica staff, we headed home. The afternoon still being fresh, we headed to the beach. We wanted a swim, but our beach was way too rocky. Liz had heard that a ten-minute walk north would solve this problem, so an ambling we went. We eventually came to a lovely beach with few rocks and enjoyed a post-tropical storm ocean. Remember the buckets of rain we’d received? Yup, thanks pre-hurricane Alex. The ocean was angry my friends, but Liz and I (and that other couple) stuck it out and enjoyed jumping over waves.

We got back to the hotel and vowed to take it easy the rest of the night. We lounged by the pool and read for a bit, then retired for the evening; snacked on sandwiches and watched the edited version of The 40 Year Old Virgin. Still a little crass, but not bad. Funny, but not must-see funny. Not content, we went out and had a lovely evening on the beach.
