Get up with some kids that like to get down

June 30, 2010: Ah, a day of recuperation. We had a lazy morning and didn’t get out of bed until a little after eight. We Skyped with our kid, then ate some sweet breakfast burritos. (My wife spoils me.) We left the hotel around noon and planned on doing some snorkeling in Puerto Morelos, a small town just to the north of us.

Sadly, upon arriving via colectivo and taxi, we learned that the passing hurricane was still wreaking havoc on the waters. Instead, we passed our time in the town by lying on the beach and swimming in the crystal clear waters.

Side note: I put my towel down a good distance from the water because there was a line of seaweed from where the water had reached at its highest point. Liz says, “Haven’t you ever heard of the tide?”, an obvious assertion that she didn’t think the water would reach that high now because it wasn’t high tide. I stood my ground and she later followed suit. The water still reached us. It felt really good. It also felt good to have been right. Anyway, we soon left Puerto Morelos, this time by taxi and then by colectivo, and rinsed ourselves off in the private pool on our deck. Then, after lunch, we went to the pool and read for a bit. Falling asleep was easy. The day was still hot and close, and we soon found a bed by the pool (yes, a bed by the pool; and we used it properly) and fell asleep.

Who knows how long we slept. We then went in and showered and carted ourselves over to Havana Moon, a restaurant at the hotel.

Getting dressed up:
Liz and I only packed a carry-on, so dressing up looks a lot like other days

We ordered a BBQ chicken pizza and enjoyed some live music. I’ll admit that I played Galadriel to Liz’s Gimli because she asked me for a dance: I gave her three. It was the perfect ending to a very relaxing day. We retired with Evan Almighty.
